# Autoscroll

Autoscroll slowly moves the preview for hands-free reading or proofing. It is separate from the [Table of Contents](Document_Navigation.md) and [Mini Map](Document_Navigation.md#minimap); it scrolls the current view automatically.

## Starting and stopping

Trigger autoscroll by pressing `s`. The preview scrolls forward at the current speed.

An indicator at the bottom-left shows the speed. Adjust it with the **Up** and **Down** arrow keys; hold **Shift** with the arrows for larger steps.

Return (`return`) pauses or resumes scrolling.

`⇧S` reverses scroll direction while autoscroll is active.

Press `s` again, or Escape, to leave autoscroll mode.

When using Marked like a teleprompter, you can add scripted pauses in the Markdown source—see [Autoscroll pauses](Special_Syntax.md#pauses) under [Marked Special Syntax](Special_Syntax.md).
